  4.     DIED. Lyle Alzado, 43, former N.F.L. defensive lineman; of
  5. brain cancer; in Portland, Ore. In 14 seasons Alzado's strength
  6. and exuberance made him twice an All-Pro. After retiring from
  7. football in 1986, Alzado became a spokesman against the use of
  8. body-building steroids, which he had used steadily since 1969
  9. and which, he said, triggered his cancer.
